FG responds to Dempsey investigation

Fine Gael TD Olwyn Enright has accused Noel Dempsey of misusing taxpayers’ money to circulate “Fianna Fail propaganda”.

Fine Gael TD Olwyn Enright has accused Noel Dempsey of misusing taxpayers’ money to circulate “Fianna Fail propaganda”.

The accusation comes in the light of this morning's reports that the Standards in Public Office Commission is planning an investigation into the use of public resources by Mr Dempsey to compile briefing documents for Fianna Fail election candidates.

The Department of Education has claimed that the dossier was also available to other candidates, but Ms Enright said it was marked “confidential” and was labelled as a briefing document “for Fianna Fáil candidates”.

She said the money and time used to compile the dossier could have been put to better use. “There are 6,000 special needs applications sitting there on somebody’s desk in the Department of Education and Science,” she said.

“It appears they haven’t got the resources to actually deal with them and yet they have the resources and time to waste collating information like this for Fianna Fáil candidates.”
