Number of overseas visitors up 6.5% in third quarter

The number of overseas trips to Ireland increased by 6.5% to 2,126,200 in the three months to end September, according to new figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The number of overseas trips to Ireland increased by 6.5% to 2,126,200 in the three months to end September, according to new figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The figure represents an overall increase of 129,600 compared to the same period 12 months earlier.

Visitors from Britain increased by 6.8% to 910,500, while visitors from other European countries increased by 5.8% to 741,800.

Trips by residents of North America were up by 5.2% to 350,000 while trips by residents of all other countries rose by 12.3%.

The total number of overseas trips by Irish residents decreased by 7.0% to 1,987,200 when compared to the same period in 2010.
