The Easy Boss E oral distraction device for safer cattle handling has been introduced north of the border.
Widely used in Canada and Australia, the Easy Boss E innovation has been put on the market in Northern Ireland by WD Morrison Agriculture, Armoy, Co Antrim.
David Morrison first saw the Easy Boss E in use in Canada, and thought it would be useful back home.
He says the reaction from farmers and contractors in the North has been entirely positive.
The Easy Boss E was developed by veterinary surgeon Dr Don Finlay as a humane and effective bovine distractor. He says, “Using a simple oral insert instrument to settle individual animals while caught is the core of distraction cattle handling.”
The stainless steel tubing device is fully inserted in the corner of the animal’s mouth.
This stimulates chewing behaviour and helps calm the animal, while it is held in place by a firm hand.
It does not work hands-free (see videos at www.easybosse.com).
It has an additional use for administering liquid medicines through the stainless steel tubing.
It’s selling in Northern Ireland for £90 (about €105).
