Michael Owen’s Brown Panther is likely to head for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster without another run.
The Shirocco colt just failed to bridge the gap from handicaps to Group One company when finishing a brave fifth in the German Derby on Sunday.
Having been drawn against the rail and with the lack of a front-runner, Richard Kingscote attempted to make all of the running aboard the Tom Dascombe-trained three-year-old.
Brown Panther was still in front a furlong out, but his early exertions and the rain-softened ground took their toll as he tired close home.
“He’s absolutely fine, no bother at all,” said Dascombe.
“The St Leger is still the plan.
“I’ll doubt that he’ll have a trial, though, he’s in the Great Voltigeur but we’ll see.
“He’s had some hard races and it might do him good to just have an easy month or two.”
