People are being encouraged to use their smartphone to download an app from the Irish Kidney Association to get an organ donor card.

New figures released by the association today show there are currently 650 people in Ireland awaiting organ transplants.

Last year was a record year for organ donation, with 93 deceased donors, up from just 58 the previous year.

Mark Murphy, Chief Executive of the Irish Kidney Association, has said so many lives have been changed for the better by the generosity of people who donate their organs.
