The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children has called for improved vetting procedures to ensure convicted sex offenders are not allowed to work with children.
The call follows a series of court cases which revealed that paedophiles convicted abroad were working with Irish children after serving their sentences.
ISPCC spokesman Paul Gilligan said: "We believe that it's now important that police forces across Europe exchange information.
"Currently, the obligation remains with the person convicted to register with the various police forces when he moves to a country. We would like to see the information passed between police forces."
