Soccer star David Beckham was today reportedly in negotiations to star in the forthcoming Pink Panther movie.
The England midfielder would play a cameo role as a footballer in the film, which follows a detective trying to solve the murder of a famous soccer coach and the theft of the Pink Panther diamond.
According to the Hollywood Reporter newspaper Beckham has to resolve a scheduling clash before committing to the movie, alongside Steve Martin and Beyonce Knowles.
The MGM movie would be the first feature film in which the Real Madrid player would appear.
Previously, only archive footage of Beckham on the field has been used – in the movie Bend It Like Beckham.
A break on to the big screen would raise Beckham’s profile even further.
His skills on the soccer field as well as a string of commercial endorsements have made him one of the world’s most famous players.
The film, which is due to go into production in May and is scheduled for a July 2005 release, is being directed by Shawn Levy.
Also starring in the movie are Kevin Kline and Jean Reno.
Beckham’s publicist was not available for comment.
