Barnardos seeks constitutional safeguard for kids

Children's charity Barnardos has called for children to be given expanded constitutional protection to ensure vulnerable children are fully protected.

Children's charity Barnardos has called for children to be given expanded constitutional protection to ensure vulnerable children are fully protected.

Barnardos made the call in a presentation to the Oireachtas Committee on the Irish Constitution on Tuesday afternoon.

“A change in the Constitution would help to change the culture and practice in child protection cases and ensure the best protection for extremely vulnerable children,” said Norah Gibbons, Barnardos’ Director of Advocacy.

Barnardos recommended the Irish Constitution should include an article that guarantees and secures the protection of children’s rights.
