Crozan stiff after Feltham failure

Crozan, who disappointed when only fourth in the Feltham Novices’ Chase at Sandown yesterday, has been reported to be stiff by trainer Nicky Henderson.

The Seven Barrows handler admitted he was mystified by the lacklustre nature of Crozan’s performance, which came on the back of his impressive seven-length defeat of Lough Derg at Cheltenham last month.

“Before Sandown he jumped five schooling fences for Mick Fitzgerald, who said he was out of the ordinary, but he just wasn’t the same horse yesterday,” said Henderson.

“When you think something might be very special you have to be disappointed, but this morning there was nothing wrong other than he pulled out a bit stiffish, which is nothing too dramatic.”

Henderson’s Irish Hussar was pulled up by Fitzgerald in the Stan James King George VI Chase.

The trainer added: “His shins were sore this morning which was a 100-1 on certainty. He travelled and jumped really well until the water and the ground was just too quick.”
