Jose Mourinho's controversial campaign

Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands in Chelsea’s Premier League clash at West Ham.

Here we look at the Portuguese’s controversial start to the season.

CARNEIRO SCANDAL (August 8)

Criticised Chelsea first-team doctor Eva Carneiro and physiotherapist Jon Fearn for naivety in running on to the field to treat Eden Hazard in the opening day draw with Swansea.

The row rumbled on for some time. Mourinho was cleared by the Football Association of abusing Carneiro, who then subsequently left Chelsea.

COSTA AND THE GUNNERS (September 19)

Diego Costa was banned retrospectively for a running feud with Arsenal defenders Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel.

Arsene Wenger avoided censure afterwards for calling referee Mike Dean “weak and naive”. Mourinho turned his frustrations to Wenger and the FA.

MOURINHO MAKES HIS CASE (October 3)

Following a 3-1 loss to Southampton, Mourinho questioned whether he would be sacked and subsequently received the first vote of confidence in a manager in the 12 years of Roman Abramovich’s ownership.

He was, though, hit with a £50,000 fine and suspended one-match stadium ban for comments after the loss about referee Robert Madeley, which, an independent panel judged, alleged bias.

HAMMERED (October 24)

Chelsea imploded prior to half-time in the loss to West Ham at Upton Park. Nemanja Matic was sent off for a second bookable offence, assistant first-team coach Silvino Louro was sent to the stands and Mourinho did not emerge on the touchline for the second half, having also been sent off.

It remained to be seen if that would result in his stadium ban being imposed, as the original sanction was subject of an appeal.
