The opposition is planning to put pressure on the Government this evening to name a date for the by-elections that need to be held in Dublin South and Dublin Central.

One Dáil seat is currently vacant in each of the constituencies following the deaths of Seamus Brennan and Tony Gregory.

The Government has so far refused to name a date for by-elections to choose their replacements, much to the annoyance of Fine Gael and the Labour Party

The two parties will tonight call on the Taoiseach to move the writ for the two elections and to hold them along with the local and European elections on June 5.

The Government is likely to reject the call, but it may give some indication of when it does plan to hold the votes.
