An Irishman has gone missing near Byron bay in Australia.

An Irishman has gone missing near Byron bay in Australia.

The 30-year-old tourist was last seen by his girlfriend at their youth hostel just after 9pm on Friday, in the state of New South Wales around 500 miles north of Sydney.

Some of his belongings have since been found on a bench near a lighthouse, sparking concerns for his welfare.

Police have initiated a search of the area and surrounding waterways, with the help of surf rescue teams and a helicopter.
