Miss Ireland will today arrive in Britain later today, having departed Nigeria with the other Miss World contestants after rioting.

Lynda Duffy (22), from Co Mayo, and the other remaining Miss World contestants fled after rioting provoked by the Miss World competition caused chaos and bloodshed.

The beauty queens are due to touch down in London, where the pageant will take place on December 7.

More than 100 people are dead and hundreds more injured after three days of clashes between Muslims and Christians in mainly Islamic Kudana in Nigeria.

The rioting was provoked by a newspaper article which suggested that if the Prophet Muhammad were alive, he would take a Miss World contestant as his wife.
