A galaxy of stars including Jennifer Lopez, John Travolta and Naomi Campbell pulled out of the Museum Of Modern Art's Costume Institute Gala on Monday night in support of fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
The Italian designers were aghast when they discovered their table at the star-studded reception was situated towards the back of the room and decided to snub the event, according to Pagesix.com.
Dolce and Gabbana allegedly telephoned their guests and encouraged them to follow suit.
Organisers tried to smooth over the situation by offering the $150,000 (€115,900) table to the designers for free - but their chagrin could not be allayed and they refused to take up the revised offer.
