Villiers happy with 'successful' Ulster Covenant march

The Northern Ireland Secretary of State has welcomed the fact that the Ulster Covenant march in Belfast passed off without violence at the weekend.

Theresa Villiers is in Dublin today, where she has toured the historic Glasnevin Cemetery where Michael Collins and Daniel O'Connell are buried.

She refused to comment on any breaches of the Parades Commission rulings during Saturday's march, which involved up to 30,000 people, but said the event was a success.

"Of course it is vitally important that the Parades Commission's decisions are abided by and I'm delighted Saturday went off very successfully in the main," she told reporters.

"There was obviously an anxiety and concern before the event and overall we can be really pleased it went off in a respectful way."
