Fine Gael working on staying in Government with Labour
The finance minister has said Fine Gael will work to ensure that both itself and Labour get enough seats to stay in Government.
Michael Noonan is the most senior minister to hint that the coalition parties could work together to maximise their seats in the next Dáil.
The comments came as Fine Gael members gathered in Dublin for their annual Ard Fheis which concludes tonight.
Minister Noonan has said the party will work with Labour to make sure the two parties together have enough seats to stay in power: “It was the present Government that initiated the recovery and developed to a point where we are growing at 7%.
“And our proposition to the people is to re-elect the present Government and we are not thinking outside of that space.
“We are not into speculation; we are going to make sure that the numbers do stack up.”
