Electronics maker NEC is asking 6,600 workers at its semiconductor plants in Japan to stay home for one to three days a month in November and December as demand drops sharply for the products.
The decision affecting eight plants comes on top of 9,000 clerical workers at NEC’s electronics device section who were ordered to take an extra day off per month for the rest of the year.
All the workers will receive 80% of their usual pay, an NEC spokesman said today on condition of anonymity.
