A man who was located after he won £100,000 (€144,738) on a British TV game show was today ordered to be extradited to Ireland from the UK.
Michael Furlong, aged 26, is wanted in Ireland in connection with a driving charge relating to an incident in March last year.
About two weeks ago, he appeared on the Channel 4 game show, Boys and Girls, and viewers recognised him as a wanted man.
Bow Street Magistrates’ Court in central London issued the extradition order after a hearing this morning.
Furlong, formerly of Enniscorthy, Co Wexford went missing last December after failing to appear at Bagenalstown District Court.
Matthew Butt, appearing for Furlong, indicated that his client would not be appealing against the order and further arrangements for the extradition would be made on Tuesday.
No date has been fixed for Furlong’s return to Ireland.
After the court hearing, a UK police source said Furlong had intended to be part of the audience on the Saturday night show.
But he was picked out to appear and then went on to claim the six-figure prize.
Furlong sat in the dock wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt with ’Available’ written on it.
