Hilary Swank and her husband Chad Lowe have sparked speculation they're trying for a baby, after buying a family sized mansion in South Bellingham, Washington.

The screen stars, who have been married for eight years, have long been fielding questions about when they'll start a family, and their new $3.5m (€2.8m) purchase in Swank's hometown is a strong indication they're ready, say pals.

A friend explained: "She loves the fact that it's really safe. The house is amazing. It has five bedrooms, a pool and a tennis court. There's certainly enough room for a nursery or two!"

Swank and Lowe currently live in New York City.
