Gardaí are hunting a lone gunman after a robbery at an AIB branch in west Co Clare this morning.

The armed raider entered the bank on O'Curry Street in Kilkee, shortly before 11am, demanding cash. He then fled the scene on foot, with an undisclosed sum of money.

An incident room has been set up at Kilrush garda station.

Superintendent Peter Duff, who is heading up the investigation, told Clare FM the raider had "what appeared to be a firearm".

He took cash from the till and left the bank.

There were two customers in the bank at the time.
