Study to examine green boost for offshore islands

The Government is funding a new study to examine the possibility of making Ireland's offshore islands self-sufficient in terms of energy.

The Government is funding a new study to examine the possibility of making Ireland's offshore islands self-sufficient in terms of energy.

The research will initially focus on the Aran Islands, but the scheme could be expanded nationwide if it is successful.

The islands already have a 750Kw wind-farm, but rely on the mainland for a lot of their energy needs.
