The Taoiseach has declared this evening that the Government wants to provide equal access to education.

Bertie Ahern is denying the controversy surrounding the possible re-introduction of third level fees is causing a rift between the coalition partners.

Speaking in Co Clare this evening, Mr Ahern said he welcomed debate on the subject, adding that the Government is still committed to providing education for all.

He added that those who are focusing on the Progressive Democrats' opposition to the re-introduction of fees are diverting from the real issue.
