Mortgage holders are expected to get a much-needed post-Budget boost today when the European Central Bank announces a cut in interest rates.

It is thought the cut could be as much as half of 1%.

If that happens, someone paying a €200,000 mortgage would save €54 a month.

Today's expected decrease will be the first by the ECB in more than a year.
