Government donation to WFP exceeds obligations

Minister for Agriculture Joe Walsh today announced the Government is donating €4.5m to the World Food Programme.

Minister for Agriculture Joe Walsh today announced the Government is donating €4.5m to the World Food Programme.

He made the announcement during a visit to Dublin by the UN's food programme director, James Morris.

Two thirds of this amount is a voluntary addition to Ireland's UN obligations.

The aid will go towards emergency and humanitarian relief efforts in Africa and Iraq.
