Man at centre of armed siege in Dublin dies in hospital
A man at the centre of an armed siege in Dublin has died in hospital.
The man, aged in his 40s, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to hospital following a stand-off with gardaí on Wednesday.
The incident happened at Farrenboley Park, Windy Arbour, Dundrum in the south of the city.
Gardaí arrived at the scene around the time a gunshot was heard.
There were no shots fired at gardaí or anyone else during the incident and detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
It is understood the man had a legally held weapon and was known to be a hunter.
The stand-off, which lasted just under two hours, was brought to an end at 5.20pm.
The man was taken by ambulance to St Vincent’s Hospital.
A Garda source has described the incident as a personal tragedy.
