Midfielder Stilian Petrov believes Celtic’s young stars can draw inspiration from the examples of Craig Beattie and Shaun Maloney.
The Scotland internationals are making their mark on the Celtic Park first team under the encouragement of manager Gordon Strachan.
Beattie, 21, scored in the 1-1 draw with Bank of Scotland Premier League leaders Hearts, while 22-year-old Maloney earned his first Scotland cap last week.
Now the Bulgaria international concedes the regular first-team players will have to remain on form to keep their places in the side.
Petrov told the Scottish Sun: “The manager told everyone right from the start he was going to play the one on form, whoever that was.
“If you want to stay in this team, you have to play well all the time.
“It’s a good thing, you have to work here and earn it and I think you only have to look at Craig Beattie.
“He has worked so hard, scored goals and earned his place in the team.
“The young boys here know they have a chance now and I thought Shaun Maloney came on and changed the game as a sub.”
