LATEST: Gardaí investigating Waterford death make one arrest
: Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the murder of Paddy Lyons.
He was arrested this afternoon in Waterford and is being held at a Waterford Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.
Gardaí in Dungarvan are appealling for witnesses to contact Dungarvan Garda station on 058 48600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

At a media briefing on Monday afternoon, Superintendent Michael Lacey of Dungarvan garda station made an appeal for a couple who called to Paddy Lyons’s house outside Lismore and then raised the alarm to make contact with the team investigating the death.

The superintendent said that, based on the autopsy performed on Mr Lyons’s body at University Hospital Waterford by assistant state pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster, gardaí have upgraded their inquiry to a murder investigation.
Mr Lyons lived alone in his farmhouse about one kilometre from the village of Ballysaggart, near Lismore in west Waterford.

Gardaí said that a couple in a van arrived at his house at about 5pm on Saturday evening and then raised the alarm by contacting a neighbour.
This neighbour, who was also a home help for Mr Lyons, found him slumped in a chair and rang the emergency services but the elderly retired farmer was pronounced dead at the scene.
The house, which is located at the end of a laneway off the road between Ballysaggart and Araglin, was sealed off that evening by gardaí and a forensic examination was carried out on Sunday by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.

Gardaí have said they are looking for two people, a man and a woman, who raised the alarm at a nearby house shortly before the body was found.
Supt Michael Lacey said Mr Lyons was last seen alive on Friday evening, approximately 24 hours before his body was found.
“A post-mortem has now been concluded and this is now a murder inquiry,” Supt Lacey said. “We are especially asking a man and a woman who raised the alarm shortly after 4.30 on Saturday to contact us.”
He said Mr Lyons was well known in the local area and had regular visitors - and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
