Theme park challenges rollercoaster riders to stifle screams

A British theme park is challenging visitors to be completely silent on its rides for one day.

Thorpe Park, in Surrey, England, is laying down the challenge to rollercoaster junkies on June 15, which will see people take on its newest ride, Storm Surge, which features a spinning life raft enduring a 64ft descent as well as the 100ft vertical drop on SAW – The Ride.

But rollercoaster expert Brendan Walker does not think anybody will be able to brave every rollercoaster in the park without making a sound.

He said: "We are hard-wired to respond to other people's screaming, which causes our levels of arousal to increase.

"With this in mind, going on a rollercoaster without screaming will be an extremely tough challenge. I doubt there is anyone who could go on every ride at Thorpe Park without screaming at least once – including me!"
