Harney set to receive frosty welcome at INO conference

The Tánaiste and Health Minister Mary Harney is expected to receive a frosty welcome when she addresses the annual conference of the Irish Nurses Organisation in Killarney, Co Kerry, today.

The Tánaiste and Health Minister Mary Harney is expected to receive a frosty welcome when she addresses the annual conference of the Irish Nurses Organisation in Killarney, Co Kerry, today.

The conference has already unanimously passed a motion backing any action necessary to ensure nurses get a 3.5% pay rise due to them at the start of the next month.

The Health Service Executive has threatened to withhold the pay rise after accusing nurses of refusing to co-operate with the introduction of 'healthcare assistant' posts in hospitals.

The INO believes the move is linked to their campaign to highlight A&E overcrowding.
