GAA: U-turn expected on Croke Park

It’s expected that GAA county boards all over the country have done a complete u-turn on the opening of 'Croke Park for other sport' issue.

It’s expected that GAA county boards all over the country have done a complete u-turn on the opening of 'Croke Park for other sport' issue.

It was only narrowly defeated last year but this time around counties seem to have changed their minds, and will not vote on the issue tomorrow at the Association’s annual congress at the Burlington Hotel.

Instead it will come up on the agenda again in autumn, and is likely to be joined by the controversial Strategic Review Committee’s report.

This report includes the possibility of splitting Dublin into two teams.

Dublin GAA chairman John Bailey is furious about the issue and today released a media statement asking for the motion to be withdrawn.

It won’t be withdrawn but it will be deferred until Autumn when both motions will get a second chance.

The only certainty of tonight’s meeting was that Sean Kelly is looking likely to become the next president of the Association.

He seems certain to get the nod at lunchtime tomorrow, easily defeating fellow candidates Albert Fallon, PJ McGrath and finally Seamus Aldridge.
