Countryside reopens after foot-and-mouth

National Parks are re-opening to the public today as part of a campaign to assist in the recovery of the £4bn tourist industry as a result of the foot-and-mouth crisis.

National Parks are re-opening to the public today as part of a campaign to assist in the recovery of the £4bn tourist industry as a result of the foot-and-mouth crisis.

The campaign to revitalise the industry is supported by Bord Failte and the Government.

The Minister for Tourism, Jim McDaid, has announced a number of special events to coincide with the opening of National parks.

Today he will reopen the Glenveigh National Park in Donegal. In Kerry, the lifting of foot-and-mouth restrictions will be celebrated with an ecumenical service attended by over 150 local school children at Muckross House in Killarney.

National parks in Killarney, the Wicklow Mountains, Connemara, the Burren and the Hill of Tara in Co Meath are all reopening today.

Ross Castle in Killarney, Carrowmore megalithic cemetery in Sligo and Donnerail Wildlife Park in Co Cork have also had restrictions imposed on them lifted.
