At least eight people have died, including a bride and a groom, after a five-storey building collapsed in Egypt last night.

Rescue workers and police are searching the site in Damietta, north of Cairo, for survivors of the collapse.

Several brides and grooms were reportedly in a hair salon in the building when it collapsed.

Police said a bride and groom were among the dead.

The cause of the collapse is also unknown, but such incidents are not uncommon in Egypt and are often blamed on shoddy construction or the unauthorised addition of extra storeys.
