High Court judge Mella Carroll has died at the age of 71 following a long battle with cancer.

High Court judge Mella Carroll has died at the age of 71 following a long battle with cancer.

She was the first woman to be appointed as a High Court judge.

The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said Justice Carroll had made an outstanding contribution.
