Ireland's industrial sector has enjoyed its strongest start to the year since 2000, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office today.
The CSO says industrial production in the first four months of 2007 was up more than 12%, following strong growth in a number of sectors.
The business group IBEC says the figures show that the industrial sector is providing a much-needed boost to Ireland's economic outlook, given the slowdown in the housing sector.
It also says the outlook for the rest of the year is favourable as the recovery in the European economy is providing good market opportunities for Irish exporters.
