Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek is determined to look for a new club in the January transfer window if he does not regain his place at Anfield.
The Poland international, who performed heroics in the Champions League final penalty shoot-out as the Reds beat AC Milan, admits he finds it difficult to accept being second choice behind Jose Reina.
Anfield manager Rafael Benitez made Reina one of his Spanish imports when he signed him from Villarreal last July.
And Dudek told PA Sport: “It is very frustrating when you can’t play in front of the Kop having won the Champions League but I have been concentrating so far on getting fit and then fighting for my place.”
Dudek, who suffered an arm injury at the start of the season, continued: “Now I am fit I will do everything to get my place back.
“It is difficult ahead of the World Cup if you are not playing and especially in my position. The national coach has told me that if I do not play for Liverpool then it will be tough for me to play for the national team.
“I know that if I do not play for Liverpool then I have to do something. I need to speak to Rafa Benitez about my future and maybe look for something in the January window.
“I need to play ahead of the World Cup as to miss out would be disastrous for a player.
“It all depends on the manager and if he gives me a chance in the team then I will take it as I have a lot of desire to fight for the place.”
