Wincanton call off St Stephen's Day fixture
Wincanton’s meeting on St Stephen's Day has been abandoned due to frost and snow.
Officials at the Somerset circuit were left with no option following an 8am inspection on Thursday morning.
Temperatures have failed to rise sufficiently to prompt a sharp thaw, while there is still five inches of snow on the track.
Clerk of the course Barry Johnson said: “It’s game over. We’re forecast minus 10C on Friday and Saturday night – it’s unbelievable.
“It was a foregone conclusion.”
