The bodies of the family found dead at their burned-out home in Co Wexford over the weekend have been released for burial by the coroner.

Diarmuid and Lorraine Flood were found dead in the early hours of Saturday morning last along with their two children, six-year-old Mark and five-year-old Julie.

Post mortem examinations have found that both parents died as a result of single gunshot wounds, while the results of toxicology tests are being awaited to establish the exact cause of the children's deaths.

The examinations found no evidence of physical trauma to the children, but did determine that neither died as a direct result of the blaze that engulfed the family home in Clonroche.
