A 64-year-old woman has been shot dead in West Dublin.

A 64-year-old woman has been shot dead in West Dublin.

The shooting occurred at around 6.20am at a house in Avonbeag Park, in Tallaght.

Emergency services are still at the scene, which is being preserved for technical examination.

Gardaí say they are as yet unaware of any motive for the killing, and are appealing for witnesses to contact the station at Tallaght.

A post mortem examination will be carried out later today.
