A man has died in a Garda car after being arrested in connection with an incident in a nightclub.

A man has died in a Garda car after being arrested in connection with an incident in a nightclub.

The Garda Ombudsman is investigation the death of the 39-year-old at Castlebar Garda Station, Co Mayo.

Investigators have appealed for witnesses to an incident in Cox’s nightclub in Castlebar at about 1am today to contact 1890 600 800.

The man was arrested at the scene and was being taken to the station, but gardaí found he was unresponsive when they arrived at Castlebar garda station.

Gardaí tried to revive the man, but he was pronounced dead in hospital.
