Man in critical condition after river rescue

A man in his 40s is in a critical condition in hospital after he was rescued from the River Lee in Cork yesterday.

A man in his 40s is in a critical condition in hospital after he was rescued from the River Lee in Cork yesterday.

The man was pulled from the water near the gates of University College Cork on the Western Road shortly after 6.30pm yesterday evening.

He had apparently been drinking with a group of friends on the river banks and gardaí are investigating the circumstances in which he ended up in the river.
