Premiership: Naysmith could miss start of season

Everton defender Gary Naysmith could miss the start of next season after complications following an ankle injury.

Everton defender Gary Naysmith could miss the start of next season after complications following an ankle injury.

David Moyes has admitted it is "unlikely" Naysmith will be fit to start next term.

Naysmith strained ligaments during the 2-1 victory at Crewe in the FA Cup, and he faces at least another four months on the sidelines.

The Edinburgh-born defender had an operation on his ankle in March, which was set to clear the problem, but Naysmith is still feeling discomfort.

Moyes said: "Gary is still not happy with the ankle after his operation. We had originally hoped to have him back for the start of pre-season training, but that's looking unlikely now.

"We'll have to be guided by the surgeon but it's disappointing."
