Study finds 10% of NI teens have self-harmed
One tenth of 16-year-olds in the North have self-harmed in the past year, according to new research published by Queens University and the University of Ulster.
The study, which involved almost 1,000 teenagers, found that girls were more likely to self-harm than boys.
It also found there were strong links between self-harm and social pressures to drink, take drugs and lose weight.
One quarter of the teenagers involved said they felt they needed help for serious emotional problems, but less than 10% had asked for it.
