Irish consumers are expected to spend up to €22m shopping online today.
Today is 'Cyber Monday', one of the busiest internet shopping day's of the year, with many businesses offering special discounts in the run-up to the Christmas period.
However, consumers are being urged to be extra vigilant when paying for goods and services online.
UK North and Ireland Director of EMC Ireland, Jason Ward, says with huge sales reported on 'Black Friday' they are expecting an increase in online sales today.
Mr Ward said: "Today, people will spend between €25m and €35m, that is probably about a 15-20% increase on last year.
"There is a huge amount of enthusiasm around for spending. I suppose the difficult thing here is when you are doing a lot of online and web-based sales is that you need to be on the lookout for the cyber-criminals.
"They are targeting people and as they become a lot more accustomed to buying online then there will be a lot more fraud online as well."
