Milner wants to stay

Leeds star James Milner insists he has not asked the club for a new deal, while Matthew Kilgallon is close to resolving his own future with the Whites.

There were recent suggestions Milner was making demands of Leeds, who has attracted the interest of a number of clubs following his performances this season despite United being relegated, including Tottenham and Southampton.

The England Under-21 international winger has made it clear he does not want to leave Leeds, while the club are adamant he is not for sale unless they receive “a silly offer” in the words of chairman Gerald Krasner.

But despite the fact the 18-year-old is currently one of the lowest-paid professionals at Leeds, he is not looking to up the ante.

“I read a report last week that I was supposed to be asking for a new contract, but that’s just not true,” said Milner.

“It was also claimed that I was on £8,000 (€11,954) a week, but I am on much less than that.”

Centre-back Kilgallon, meanwhile, is on the brink of signing a new contract as Leeds are determined he plays a key role in the club’s bid to make an immediate return to the Premier League next season.

Kilgallon is out of contract in the summer but talks are ongoing and Krasner remains positive another of England’s Under-21 internationals will sign, particularly as the 20-year-old – like Milner – wants to remain at Elland Road.

Kilgallon told the club’s website, www.leedsunited.com: “I just want to get everything sorted now.

“My agent is talking to the club at the moment and I know there have been other clubs come in for me, but I have told them all I just want to stay here and help the club get straight back up.

“I live 15 minutes away from training. It’s so easy to get there and I have always supported Leeds as well, plus my family and girlfriend are here, so I don’t want to be moving down south.

“All I want is to start next season playing every match for Leeds and have a good season in Division One that ends with us getting promoted.”
