Fallon to have specialist advice
Kieren Fallon’s solicitor is to call on specialist legal advice in the wake of the champion jockey’s arrest and subsequent release on bail on Wednesday as part of a police investigation into alleged race-fixing.
Christopher Stewart-Moore is to obtain a transcript of Fallon’s police interview before determining what steps to take next.
The solicitor, speaking to the BBC, said: “The Jockey Club have indicated that as matters stand his licence remains in force and it will therefore be business as usual for Kieren.
“I will be, in the meantime, obtaining a transcript of his interview with the police and will obtain specialist legal advice as to what steps are then appropriate.
“It is two months until he has to answer to bail again. The police have taken various items from his house, such as his computers, and no doubt they will be looking at those. It is really in their hands as to what happens next.
“We will be receiving specialist legal advice on those points as I am not a criminal lawyer.
“I have already received some advice on that topic and it depends on whether the police had proper grounds for taking the steps they have taken.
“Of course Kieren did spend a lot of time in a police cell, and that is a matter that we will be referring to our specialist advisor.
“Kieren slept better that night than I did as he seemed to be extremely calm and took it very much in his stride.”
Stewart-Moore confirmed that the police had stated they had more evidence than has so far been revealed in the case.
He said: “On the basis of the questions that were put to Kieren Fallon by the police during the interview, I can’t really anticipate the nature of what any charge might be.
“That is because no specific incident was put to Kieren Fallon. The police indicated that they did have more evidence, but were not prepared to inform us at that time as to the nature of that evidence.
“They did say that the nub of their case related to a car journey that Kieren Fallon took with an individual, who we were informed was central to their investigation.
“Kieren Fallon had already volunteered that he had been in a car with that individual, but he had not known at the time who he was and he did not speak to him.
“He was unaware of any other meeting with that individual.
“That being the case, we do not anticipate that any charge will be made.”
It is understood the person referred to was Miles Rodgers, former director of the Platinum Racing syndicate, who was warned of for two years by the Jockey Club earlier this year.
