A man was recovering after being stabbed in the stomach today when he confronted thieves who were trying to break into his car.
The man was attacked in the Kilmore Village area of Crossgar in Co Down this morning as several people tried to break into the vehicle.
A struggle took place during which he was attacked with a Bowie-type knife.
His main attacker is believed to be 6ft 1in, of slim build, with a thin face and shaven head.
Police in Downpatrick have appealed for witnesses.
It was the second stabbing incident in Northern Ireland in the past 24 hours.
A 15-year-old boy was attacked at a teenage disco in Cookstown, Co Tyrone.
A man was arrested after the incident which occurred before midnight at a hotel on the Drum Road.
The boy was treated for knife wounds to the chest at the Mid-Ulster Hospital in Magherafelt.
Police have also appealed for information about the Cookstown attack.
The teenager is believed to be in a stable condition.
