Cork City 0 Portadown 1
Shelbourne are into the Setanta Cup final after Cork failed to break down Portadown at Turner’s Cross despite the IFA Cup winners playing with 10 men for an hour.
Needing to win by two clear goals, it seemed destined not to be Cork's night as they had a Kevin Doyle goal disallowed and appeals for a penalty waved away before falling behind to the match winning goal on 31 minutes.
Gary Hamilton was hero and villain for Ports as he volleyed home from 20 yards from Michael Collins’ super through ball.
But a petulant kick at George O’Callaghan three minutes later saw the Ports striker shown a straight red card.
City ran the second half, but, despite forcing 10 corners, couldn’t find a way past man-of-the-match Paul Murphy who made super saves from O’Callaghan and Dan Murray.
Cork's misery was complete on 89 minutes when keeper Mark McNulty was sent off for a professional foul on Peter McCann.
