Katherine Heigl has reportedly quit ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
The actress – who has portrayed Dr Izzie Stevens in the US medical drama show for six years – is believed to have begged bosses on the show to release her from her contract so she can focus on her movie career instead.
Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello has reported: “Sources confirm to me exclusively that series creator Shonda Rhimes has agreed to release the fast-rising movie star from her contract. It’s now up to ABC Studios and Heigl’s reps to hash out a final exit agreement.”
Katherine took a break from the current series to look after her adopted daughter Nayleigh with husband Josh Kelley.
The 31-year-old actress was expected to return to set on March 1 to record the final five episodes of the show, but it is believed she never showed up for filming.
If this is the case, the actress’ final scenes will have already aired in the US.
This news must have come as a surprise to the show’s creator and writer Shonda, who recently confirmed: "Katherine's written into the next script."
In the latest series of the show - which is based around the life of staff and patients at the Seattle Grace Hospital - the doctor character almost died from cancer.
