David Coulthard was second in a McLaren Mercedes, 0.05 seconds behind Schumacher.
Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, who is on pole, came in third in a Williams BMW, 0.2 behind.
Rubens Barrichello, Schumacher's team-mate, was fourth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in a Sauber.
Montoya and Barrichello will start from the front row in the race.
