Non-EU exports increase in July

Seasonally adjusted non-EU exports increased in July 2004 relative to the June 2004 values.

The July figures show that exports increased from €2,412m to €2,866m (+19%) while imports decreased from €1,602m (revised) to €1,475m (-8%).

The unadjusted non-EU trade for July 2004, relative to July 2003, shows exports increased from €2,577m to €2,944m (+14%) while imports decreased from €1,513m to €1,395m (-8%).

Comparing January - July 2004 with the corresponding period in 2003:

Exports increased marginally from €18,718m to €18,917m (+1%).

Exports of professional, scientific & controlling apparatus increased from €856m to €1,640m (+92%), electrical machinery increased from €1,673m to €2,023m (+21%) while computers decreased from €2,854m to €2,153m (-25%).

Exports to Japan increased from €1,153m to €1,338m (+16%), to Hong Kong increased from €370m to €528m (+43%) while exports to the USA were down slightly from €9,972m to €9,898m (-1%).

Imports increased from €10,496m to €10,758m (+2%).

Imports of transport equipment other than road vehicles (SITC division 79 which includes aviation) increased from €223m to €703m.

Other shifts include imports of organic chemicals which increased from €618m to €765m (+24%) while general industrial machinery & equipment decreased from €294m to €162m (-45%).

Imports from China increased from €981m to €1,374m (+40%) and Taiwan increased from €423m to €518m (+23%) while imports from Japan decreased from €1,198m to €1,042m (-13%).
